Jewelry Advent Calendar or Earrings You Choose? A Gift Checklist
A jewelry advent calendar makes the opening part of the gift. Choosing earrings individually gives you more control over what the recipient will wear. To choose between them, look at what is included and what the recipient actually wears.
Before choosing a box or building your own selection, write down what you already know: their preferred jewelry, the fittings they wear and whether they enjoy surprises. For someone with sensitive ears, those details deserve as much attention as the presentation.
Decide which part of the gift matters most
A curated calendar can suit someone who enjoys opening a coordinated assortment and wears several kinds of jewelry. Individually chosen earrings can suit someone with a specific style or a fitting they already know works for them. Think about what they reach for on an ordinary morning.
If they wear necklaces and bracelets as often as earrings, a mixed assortment may have plenty for them to enjoy. If they rotate between two favorite pairs of studs, choosing another compatible pair gives you a more focused starting point.
You can keep some surprise while checking the practical details. Ask about their preferred post size and fastening, then choose the decorative front yourself. Or let them choose the earrings and make the way you give them the surprise. Neither approach needs a large number of pieces to feel considered.

Count the actual contents, not the compartments
Read the current contents list before comparing calendars. Missoma's August 2026 calendar article, for example, describes six jewelry pieces per calendar, with assortments that extend beyond earrings. Other calendars can have different contents and counts.
A calendar name doesn't establish the number of earrings, and a piece count isn't necessarily a pair count. Check whether each earring entry is a single stud or a complete pair. Also check which necklaces, bracelets or other pieces are included in the exact edition you are considering.
Then look at the assortment through the recipient's habits. Would they wear most of it, or would several pieces stay in the box? You don't have to predict every outfit. You do need enough information to tell whether the mix suits them.
Compare the total cost of the actual items you want to give. Keep delivery and any separately purchased presentation materials in that comparison, rather than treating a large advertised piece count as the whole measure of value.

Confirm the fitting before choosing the decoration
For this earring checklist, shop for compatible, fully healed piercings. If you don't know the recipient's fitting, ask them or have them confirm it with their piercer. Their favorite earring's appearance alone won't tell you its post diameter, wearable length or fastening.
Use our earring size guide to read those measurements. The width of a butterfly or pearl front is separate from the length of the post through the ear. A small-looking decoration doesn't necessarily mean a thinner or shorter post.
The Association of Professional Piercers discusses appropriate size, material and surface quality in its initial-jewelry guidance. Those are useful details to ask about when comparing specifications; a gift box or a color name doesn't establish them.
Record the closure as well. A threaded front and a threadless push-pin are different connections, even if the listed post dimensions match. Choose complete earrings with a confirmed fitting rather than buying decorative parts on the assumption that they will attach to the recipient's existing posts.
Choose a pair around a detail they already like
Our Crystal Butterfly has two marquise-shaped wings and two round lower crystals. Its listed face measures approximately 4.8 by 4.0 mm. If the recipient already wears small floral or nature-inspired shapes, the butterfly gives you a specific design to compare with their collection.
Crystal Trio Bar has three small round crystals in a narrow arrangement, with an approximately 5.3 by 2.1 mm face. That narrow outline is worth comparing with the earrings they wear if they prefer slim shapes. Both listings specify F136/G23 titanium alloy and threadless push-pin flat backs.
Titanium Pearl has an approximately 6 mm pearl face and a threaded flat-back post, with F136 titanium alloy listed as its metal. Compare that round front with the recipient's preferred proportions. The product name alone doesn't establish that the pearl is natural.
All three are listed as complete pairs with 20G posts, or 0.8 mm diameter, and a 6 mm wearable length. Those shared dimensions still need to match the intended piercing. These are individual product choices you can consider for a personal gift selection, rather than a ready-made calendar or set.

Make the handover easy for the recipient
If you select several pairs yourself, keep each complete pair together with its product name and fitting details. You might choose different front shapes, or stay with one shape in the recipient's preferred color. Let their habits guide the assortment rather than adding another pair just to increase the count.
Before paying, check the actual seller's delivery estimate, return conditions and included packaging. Ask specifically about earrings and whether opening or trying them affects returns. If you need a gift receipt or a particular presentation, confirm that it is available instead of assuming it comes with the order.
Keep the order information somewhere you can find it after the gift is opened. A short note identifying the closure and size gives the recipient useful information for later. You can also tell them you are happy to help check a detail or arrange an exchange under the seller's policy.
Questions about jewelry calendar gifts
Does a jewelry advent calendar always mean 24 pieces?
No. Check the exact edition's contents and opening format. The six-piece Missoma example shows why the name alone isn't enough to establish a count, and the number of pieces doesn't tell you how many complete earring pairs are included.
Can I make a personal gift selection from separate pairs?
Yes. Choose the individual products you want to give and keep their specifications together. Any wrapping or arrangement you make yourself is your presentation; it doesn't mean the retailer sells those items as a packaged set.
What if I don't know their post size?
Ask before buying fitted earrings. You can show them a few decorative options while leaving the final choice as a surprise. If they aren't sure either, they can confirm the fitting with their piercer before you place the order.
